Firm Background

In 1922, Charles Foster, as sole proprietor, established his professional engineering company in Duluth, Minnesota. In 1959, Principals Howard Jacobs and Philip Johnson incorporated it under the present name of Foster, Jacobs & Johnson, Inc. Principals James Johnson and Charles Jacobs maintain an extensive archive of engineering drawings and documentation dating back over 75 years. When you work with Foster, Jacobs & Johnson, Inc., you are working with a well-established, professional engineering firm rich in resources and dedicated to providing quality engineering services for you.

Our firm is experienced in the preparation of studies, energy audits, reports and grant applications, and actively engages in the preparation of working drawings and specifications for, and the subsequent inspection of construction of power and heating plants, air-fields, traffic and street lighting systems, and the complete mechanical, electrical and utility design of hospitals, nursing homes, schools, colleges, apartment buildings and housing projects, as well as a wide variety of commercial, governmental, and industrial buildings and systems.

FJJ was selected to provide the mechanical and electrical design, and the construction observation for all phases of this extensive renovation project, which resulted in the beautiful Kirby Plaza at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Our services for public building infrastructure include design for H.V.A.C., fire protection, plumbing, power, data systems, fire alarm and lighting. Our designs incorporate high-performance systems for today's green construction.

FJJ offers a diverse range of expertise that is not typical of a traditional mechanical and electrical engineering firm. The engineers at FJJ are involved through initial study, design, cost estimating, equipment selection, specification writing, construction observation services and coordination of mechanical/electrical work with building systems.
